Development versus environment

Environmental issues are close to the heart of many Coromandel residents. When in 2010 there were plans to develop the unspoiled New Chums Beach near Coromandel, local environmental campaigner Linda Cholmondeley-Smith urged the government to protect it by making it a national reserve.
