The Drysdale Overture of 1937 is among Douglas Lilburn’s earliest works for orchestra. The piece was written while Lilburn was a student at the Royal College of Music in London. The overture is dedicated to Lilburn’s father, Robert, and celebrates the family farm on which Lilburn grew up. Pictured here is the farm homestead, north-west of Hunterville.
