Stevenson screen

The Stevenson screen was designed in 1864 by Thomas Stevenson, a Scottish civil engineer and father of the writer Robert Louis Stevenson. It has been widely used throughout New Zealand. The screen shields instruments from rain and direct sunlight, which could interfere with weather readings.
