Story: Older people

Red Hat Society

Red Hat Society

Social groups help older people to maintain contact with others. The Red Hat Society is an international older women's group with many chapters throughout New Zealand. Members wear red hats, and often other flamboyant items of clothing, when meeting and going out in public. Some even adopt pseudonyms like Queen Preshus Pearlishus Phandangle (New Plymouth) and The Royal Saucer'ess Queen of Vice Wicked Wendy (Auckland). This group of Red Hat Society women are enjoying afternoon tea in Lisburn House, Dunedin.
