A photograph of the dress rehearsal for the New Zealand Opera Company's 1965 production of Porgy and Bess shows internationally famous bass Īnia Te Wīata (kneeling, second from right) as Porgy. The production included many Māori singers in the cast, and was a huge success when it toured New Zealand (though the Australian tour, like many a New Zealand venture into Australia, was financially crippling). Listen to Īnia Te Wīata singing ‘I got plenty o’ nothing’ from Porgy and Bess at a live performance in Wellington in 1962.
