This pou whenua (land post) was erected on Raoul Island by members of Northland’s Ngāti Kurī tribe. Ngāti Kurī have traditional links with the Kermadecs, as their ancestral canoe, the Kurahaupō, was nearly wrecked on Raoul Island. After being repaired, it sailed on to New Zealand.
