This is the beginning of the Order of Mass (the standard form of Catholic church service, also called the Ordinary of the Mass) in both Latin and English. Latin was the international language of Catholic ritual for centuries. The English version is from the 1970s. The Second Vatican Council (1962–65) allowed the Latin Mass to be replaced with services in vernacular (commonly used) languages.
