Opening day at Western Springs College, 1964

Opening day at Western Springs College, 1964

In the 1950s and 1960s distinctions between technical and other kinds of secondary education were removed and some technical schools were split into high schools and tertiary institutions. One such school was the central-city Seddon Memorial Technical College in Auckland, which was split in 1960. In 1963 the polytechnic division was named Auckland Technical Institute. In 1964 it was decided to move the high school to a new site in Western Springs, and Western Springs College opened there that year.
