Story: Subantarctic islands

Pleurophyllum speciosum (3rd of 5)

Pleurophyllum speciosum

There are three species of Pleurophyllum, all endemic to the subantarctic islands. Pleurophyllum speciosum, the Campbell Island daisy, is found on both the Auckland and Campbell islands. Here it grows in profusion above Perseverance Harbour on Campbell Island. Its magenta flowers appear in December, and its fleshy, corrugated leaves are about 25 centimetres long.
