Courtville

Despite the exodus to the suburbs during the 20th century, some still preferred inner-city living, with its access to amenities like shops and theatres. They included childless couples, single people, and culture lovers. To cater for these groups, entrepreneurs began erecting blocks of flats. The first of these was Courtville in central Auckland, built in the 1910s in a style reminiscent of a contemporary Viennese apartment block.
